Mauritanian griot traditions meet Saharan funk, psychedelia and soaring vocals

Noura Mint Seymali brings the hypnotic power of Mauritanian music to Glasgow, blending centuries-old griot traditions with the energy of psychedelic rock, Saharan grooves and contemporary global sounds. Rooted in the rich musical culture of Moorish society, her performances are driven by soaring vocals, intricate rhythms and the distinctive sound of the ardin harp, creating an atmosphere that is both deeply traditional and thrillingly modern.

Joined by her acclaimed band, including guitarist Jeiche Ould Chighaly, Seymali builds expansive musical landscapes where driving electric guitar lines intertwine with powerful call-and-response vocals and propulsive percussion. Her music shifts effortlessly between trance-like intensity and moments of lyrical beauty, drawing audiences into a captivating sonic journey inspired by the deserts and musical heritage of Mauritania.

A recipient of the WOMEX Artist Award and celebrated on stages around the world, Seymali's Celtic Connections appearance offers a vibrant evening of musical discovery, cultural exchange and electrifying live performance.
