A young neurosurgeon (Gene Wilder) inherits the castle of his grandfather, the famous Dr. Victor von Frankenstein. In the castle he finds a funny hunchback called Igor, a pretty lab assistant named Inga and the old housekeeper, Frau Blucher. Young Frankenstein believes that the work of his grandfather was delusional, but when he discovers the book where the mad doctor described his reanimation experiment, he suddenly changes his mind... In 1974 the Cosmo Cinema was purchased by the Scottish Film Council and reopened as the Glasgow Film Theatre we know and love today. In this same year, Young Frankenstein was released and instantly became a cult classic for its parody of the horror genre and humour. The film was directed by Mel Brooks (who recently celebrated his 100th birthday!) and loved amongst audiences of all ages. Please note, this film has a 12A rating and is suitable for ages 12+ with adult supervision. This screening is a part of Sitting with the Stars , organised by the Sauchiehall Street: Culture and Heritage District , supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund’s Heritage Places. Sitting with the Stars is a programme of talks, screenings and activity which invites audiences to step into Glasgow’s social history as a ‘Cinema City’ during the early 20 th century - a time when the city had over 130 cinemas, and more cinema seats and picture houses per head than any other city in the world.
