Drop into our Mòd Fringe Hub to watch a short Gaelic film. Tue 13 October 4 - 5pm Once Upon a Time: The Tale of the Hoodie Men that transform into hoodie crows, disappearing babies and the hill of poison are found in Romy NicMhìcheil and Marie Trestrail's short, multi-medium film adapting a Gaelic folktale. Combining live-action footage of landscapes on Islay, voices from Islay and original animation, this film follows a mystical hoodie crow/man and his wife as she journeys to find him again. Through working with the local community this film retells a story which was recorded on Islay in the 1800s. Wed 14 October 4 - 5pm Beura The tale of the Cailleach Bheur, the Celtic goddess of nature, storms and winter, is well known to many in the Gàidhealtachd. Said to have carved the mountains and glens with ice, and borne the islands like children on her back, the Cailleach disappeared long ago leaving us only with her song – a sad, cautionary tale. ’Beura’ is a new Gaelic arts project bringing music, film and verse together to reimagine the Cailleach’s story for the modern era. Combining the intense landscape visuals of Orcadian filmmaker Gregor D. Sinclair with a new musical work for string ensemble by celebrated Highland composer Lisa Robertson. Thu 15 October 4 - 5pm The story behind Song of the Oysters A film about 'Òran nan Eisirean', the new Mòd choral competition song based on the past story and positive future for native oysters on Scotland's west coast. This often-overlooked animal plays a big role in coastal waters but needs our help to return to its vital place for people and the environment. Event includes an interactive workshop - share your own coastal memories; in story and song (all ages) and some papercraft (best for ages 10-16). Friday 16 October 4 - 5pm The Rising Tide , by Kit Rodman-Orr A dance theatre film, exploring climate change, movement, language, and identity through a Gaelic lens. Blending original spoken word with an immersive soundscape, the work explores how environmental change intersects with personal identity. Part of Glasgow Life at the Royal National Mòd Fringe 2026.
