A session on editing for the Cambridge Edition of Virginia Woolf's Flush takes place on 16 October 2026 in Room 203, Glasgow. The event focuses on the recently published biography and is free to attend.
Room 203, 4 University Gardens
This session will focus on the recently published Cambridge Edition of Flush: A Biography (https://www.cambridgebookshop.co.uk/products/flush), Virginia Woolf's 1933 fictional biography of Elizabeth Barrett Browning's cocker spaniel. The editors, Professor Linden Peach (School of Traditional Arts, London), Dr Derek Ryan (University of Kent) and Dr Jane Goldman (University of Glasgow), will discuss the challenges of editing this text, mapping its genesis, and collating its multiple states, from drafts to magazine serialisation to book publication on both sides of the Atlantic. They will be joined by Dr Peter Adkins (University of Edinburgh) to consider the significance of this new edition of Flush for Woolf and Modernist studies, and more broadly for the animal turn in literary studies, drawing on its authoritative Introduction, extensive Explanatory Notes, and appended transcriptions of Woolf’s reading notes and holograph drafts.
