A guided tour around a recently restored unique Category B wooden framed boathouse, including some of the history of rowing on the Clyde

Glasgow Doors Open Days 2026 invites you to visit the West Boathouse on Glasgow Green for a guided tour!

The West Boat House, a Category B listed building, sits on the River Clyde within Glasgow Green. It was originally designed as a timber framed structure by AB MacDonald, the Glasgow City surveyor, and built in 1905 as a purpose-built boat house to house two clubs – Clydesdale Amateur Rowing Club and Clyde Amateur Rowing Club. Unfortunately, the building suffered significant decay, especially below ground where 28 of the 30 original timber poles were found to have rotted through. After many years of planning and fund raising, the building went through a major renovation and refurbishment program starting in 2019, culminating in a grand reopening in May 2023.
