Understanding Behaviour: A Positive Approach for Parents and Carers

Do you sometimes find yourself asking:

"Why is my child behaving like this?"

"What are they trying to tell me?"

"Am I responding in the right way?"

"How can I understand them better?"

This workshop introduces parents and carers to the principles of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), a compassionate approach that helps us understand behaviour through curiosity, empathy and connection.

Rather than focusing on controlling behaviour, we'll explore what behaviour can tell us about a child's needs, emotions and experiences.

What we'll cover

During this workshop we will explore:

What behaviour is and why everyone uses behaviour to get their needs met.

The idea that behaviour is a form of communication.

Common reasons why behaviour occurs.

How relationships and environments can influence behaviour.

The importance of choice, communication and predictability.

Positive approaches that focus on understanding rather than punishment.

How improving wellbeing and quality of life can support positive outcomes.

Who is this for?

This workshop is suitable for:

Parents

Carers

Foster carers

Kinship carers
