Join our Cancer Awareness Day on Friday, 18 September. This event will bring together primary and secondary healthcare and we welcome all those working in primary care (including all reception/admin staff, GPs and practice managers) to join us.
This course is designed to equip healthcare staff with the foundational knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to confidently support individuals living with and beyond cancer. Grounded in the principles of person-centred care, the course provides a comprehensive overview of the contemporary cancer care pathway and highlights the vital role that all healthcare professionals play in improving patient outcomes at every stage—from diagnosis through treatment, survivorship, palliative care and beyond.
Participants will explore the physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs of people affected by cancer and their carers. Through this, they will develop insight into how their existing clinical experience with other long-term conditions can be effectively transferred to support the unique challenges faced by cancer patients.
Participants will be empowered with an understanding of national frameworks and reports that guide the delivery of cancer care and planning. Participants will also be introduced to key resources and guidelines, enabling them to apply best practice in their work settings.
The course will also provide a greater understanding of the wider cancer workforce and how multidisciplinary approaches are required across primary, secondary and tertiary care services. By gaining insight into the roles and responsibilities of colleagues across the cancer continuum, staff will be better equipped to coordinate and deliver safe, collaborative, and holistic care to patients.
Upon completion, participants will leave with increased knowledge, skills and confidence about their role in delivering exceptional care, their role in improving operational performance and patient experiences. Finally, they will leave with the improved ability to effectively support patients to live well with and beyond cancer.
