Join expert photographer Andy Atkins for a bird photography workshop for enthusiasts.

Bird-watching and photography is one the fastest growing hobbies in the UK. If you are interested in bird photography, or looking to improve your technique and results, why not join professional nature photographer, Andy Atkins, and immerse yourself in YWT Staveley's wildlife, while you learn the simple, and not-so-simple, skills that turn an ordinary 'record shot' into an image you want on your wall. As you move around the various reserve habitats, Andy will cover subjects such as camera settings, subject lighting, composition and post-processing. There will also be plenty of opportunity to ask questions, as this is a small group workshop.

A bit about Andy, he is a member of the Society of International Nature & Wildlife Photographers and has received recognition in national and international competitions, including the annual ND Awards and the Society of Photographers Awards. He has previous experience in mentoring and training. What to bring/wear

This workshop is not sustiable for mobile phone or most compact cameras. As a guide, a lens that can reach a minimum of 300mm focal length will make for a productive workshop and images you should enjoy. Most people that regularly take bird images will work at 500mm or more. Please bring sufficient memory cards and charged batteries for a few hours fairly constant use. The only other requirement is suitable footwear (walking shoes or boots, ideally) and kit that's appropriate for the weather on the day.

You may also wish to bring binoculars.

Accessibility

This workshop will involve walking around Staveley taking photos of birds. The paths around the reserve are accessible.

Toilets and catering

There are portaloos avaliable on the day in the orchard and a coffee truck will be avaliable until 3pm.

You're welcome to bring a drink and/or snack with you but please take your litter home with you.

Parking

Car park just outside Staveley village on Minskip Road, holding 12 cars. We are anticipating a busy day so if you need to park in the village please be respectful to residents.
