The Dan McConkey Quartet will perform contemporary jazz at Barnaby's Lounge in Hastings on Saturday, 30 August 2026. The performance is scheduled for 1:30 pm.
Dan McConkey Quartet We’re delighted to welcome the Dan McConkey Quartet to Barnaby’s Lounge for an afternoon of contemporary jazz that is melodic, adventurous and beautifully alive. London-based saxophonist and composer Dan McConkey has developed a distinctive sound centred around his warm, rich tenor saxophone and highly melodic approach to improvisation. His writing moves between contemporary jazz, folk influences and European traditions, creating music that feels sophisticated without ever becoming inaccessible. Dan graduated from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama with First Class Honours and has performed at venues including Ronnie Scott’s, Abbey Road Studios, PizzaExpress Live and Cadogan Hall. He was also shortlisted for the Peter Whittingham Jazz Award in 2023. His quartet features Charlie Heywood on guitar, Sam Ingvorsen on bass and Joshua Walker-Martin on drums, the same lineup heard on Dan’s 2025 album SET. The record combines original compositions with imaginative interpretations of traditional folk melodies, giving a good indication of the musical territory this quartet explores. Expect lyrical saxophone, intricate interplay, space, groove and four musicians genuinely listening to one another. This is contemporary jazz made for a proper listening room, and exactly the sort of evening we love at Barnaby’s. Settle in with lunch from Powell’s Kitchen, a bottle of wine or one of our cocktails and enjoy the quartet up close. 🎷 Dan McConkey – tenor saxophone 🎸 Charlie Heywood – guitar 🎻 Sam Ingvorsen – bass 🥁 Joshua Walker-Martin – drums [Dan McConkey official website] https://www.danmcconkey.com/ [Listen and follow Dan on Instagram] https://www.instagram.com/dan.mcconkey [Barnaby’s Lounge – reserve a table] https://www.barnabyslounge.co.uk/ *£6+ music charge supports our live musicians.*
