Sam Lee returns to Rye Harbour Discovery Centre on 6 November 2026 for an audio experience exploring the Nightingale's world.
Mercury Prize-nominated folksinger, Sam Lee, returns to our Discovery Centre for an enthralling audio experience of the Nightingale’s world.
Performers: Sam Lee and Axel Wild
After last year’s magical acapella event, we’re thrilled to have Sam Lee back again, this time with Axel Wild, for their Nightingale show, debuted at Glastonbury Festival. Don’t miss this unique, intimate experience in the ambiance of our Discovery Centre within Sussex Wildlife Trust's largest nature reserve.
Folksinger and naturalist, Sam Lee, and nature-sound-recordist and spatial audio maestro, Axel Wild, will take you on a narrated, musical and sonic journey into the world of the Nightingale.
For millennia, the Nightingale with its famously beautiful melodies has been a cultural, poetic and folkloric icon. Be immersed, via surround sound speakers, song, stories and recordings, in the extraordinary lifecycle and character of this exquisite singer. Hear tales of our relationship to the land through this now critically endangered species that Sussex Wildlife Trust works to protect and restore.
Sam Lee is an award-winning folksinger, song collector and ecological activist, connecting music with environmental and conservation awareness. His approach breathes fresh life into traditional songs and invites us to rediscover their power.
Sam’s talent for melding heritage with modernity, earned him a Songlines Award for Artist of the Year and recognition at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. His album 'Songdreaming' was named one of Mojo’s Top 10 Folk Albums of 2024 and Best European Album at the Songlines Music Awards.
Sam’s annual ‘Singing With Nightingales’ springtime, immersive events have highlighted the plight of this endangered bird. His debut novel, ‘The Nightingale, Notes on a Songbird’, explores the bird’s enduring cultural legacy and is available in our shop.
