Walk Leader: David Bridger
Join our Senior Ranger, Dav, for an exclusive guided walk around Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. He'll focus on the special shingle habitat, it's ecology and plant community and the geological processes that shape it. We'll search the strandline for treasures and look out for seals and seasonal birds too.
We'll take a circular walk stopping off at a bird hide, looking out for winter birds like ducks and waders, maybe even an exotic Spoonbill. Dave has a special love of seals, having met them underwater while scuba diving. We may see them swimming in the River Rother, provided they oblige.
There will be opportunities to ask questions on our walk and you'll hear from Dav about the work of the Rangers and volunteers. Previous ranger walk attendees said:
"I feel a learned a lot. The guide was very knowledgeable and his passion about wildlife infectious."
Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is a wetland wildlife habitat of national and international importance, particularly for waterbirds. There's a mosaic of habitats including saltmarsh, grazing marsh, shingle, saline lagoons and ditches, which support many rare and vulnerable species.
