About This Event

The Wildlife Watch: Family Spider Hunt invites families to explore spiders in the nature reserve and classroom, aimed at educating youngsters about these creatures.

Get set for an exciting time exploring spiders! On the nature reserve and in our classroom, youngsters will discover fascinating spiders.

Walk leader: Matt Rich, Ranger

Spiders go hand in hand with Hallowe'en and there's an increase in spider activity in the autumn. But do these creatures deserve their creepy reputation?

Join Matt to learn about the amazing world of spiders at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. We'll meet at the Discovery Centre classroom for a brief illustrated chat, then we'll head outside on a spider hunt, a short gently-paced walk of around a mile (1.5km), ending back at the Centre.

Discover the importance of spiders and their part in ecosystems. Hear about their behaviour and their superpowers, as well as how to identify some and what you can do to help them.

Suitable for children aged 5 to 11 years, accompanied by a parent or guardian. Adults go free, please book a ticket for everyone attending the session.

At Sussex Wildlife Trust, we work to ensure that spiders have habitats to thrive in. Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is an important wetland wildlife habitat with over 2,000 invertebrate species noted.
