Tutor: Mya Bambrick
Experienced birder Mya will take you on a 2 mile (3 km) guided circular walk around Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, a wetland habitat of international importance, particularly for waterbirds. We'll be visiting a couple of bird hides with bench seats and looking for seasonal birds, including waders, gulls, songbirds and summer migrants like terns.
Mya's keen to get young people into birdwatching and we're offering a special half-price concession for young people aged 12 to 25. Under 18's must be accompanied by an adult. Whether you're a real beginner or an improver, this event is for you.
Get clear tips from Mya on how to identify them by sight or sound. She'll talk about the lives of birds we see and there'll be plenty of opportunities to ask questions, for those who want to, on this relaxed and friendly walk. We recommend bringing binoculars if you have them, although we’ll have some available to borrow.
Mya Bambrick is an award-winning young naturalist from Sussex. She leads bird tours and walks at Poole Harbour and was the winner of the British Trust for Ornithology's Young Ornithologist Award 2023. She has written for Birdwatching Magazine, featured on Radio 4’s Tweet of the Day and created films for Chris Packham's Self-Isolating Bird Club. See her website.
