Visit us at Llwyn Celyn in the Black Mountains, we'll be open between 10am-4pm over the weekend.

At the southern end of the beautiful Llanthony Valley in the Black Mountains stands Llwyn Celyn. It was built in 1420 on the lands of the Llanthony Priory and is very rare survival. Llwyn Celyn is rich in medieval features and has barely changed since around 1690. It has been carefully conserved and restored by the Landmark Trust.

What's On

Memorable animal encounters

Saturday 12 September Animals Interactive | 11am-2pm

Get hands-on with ten different species, including an owl, giant tortoise, rabbits, mice, guinea pigs and lizards. Learn fascinating facts and meet some rare and unusual creatures up close.

Sunday 13 September Amazing Alpacas | 10am-4pm

Meet the friendly alpacas from their little Monmouthshire farm. Get up close, handle them and perhaps even offer a few treats!

Please note the different animals on Saturday and Sunday only, as above. Specific animals may vary on the day.

These animals encounters are free, but donations towards the work of the Landmark Trust are gratefully received. Children must be supervised at all times. Hand washing facilities will be available.

Refreshments

Enjoy the Threshing Barn on site with hot drinks available for a donation towards the work of the Landmark Trust. We do not offer food at Open Days, but visitors are welcome to bring their own picnic to have in the Threshing Barn or outside areas.

Donations to Landmark as part of your visit

The Landmark Trust is a building conservation charity that relies on donations to support its work. Over the past 60 years, public support has helped us rescue over 200 historic buildings and make them available for all to experience and enjoy.

Getting there and parking

Llwyn Celyn is situated a few miles north of Abergavenny. From the A465, turn into the village of Llanvihangel Crucorney. At the Skirrid Inn take the road toward Llanthony Priory. Llwyn Celyn is situated on the left, about I mile out of the village.

Free visitor parking will be well signposted in a field below the farm. The house is short walk of a few hundred yards up a rough track to the site – please wear sturdy footwear. Unreserved disabled parking is available on site up a rough track outside the Threshing Barn.

Abergavenny railway station is approximately 7 miles from the property.

Llwyn Celyn is on the side of hill that is steep in some places, it therefore may not be suitable for those with limited mobility.

The Threshing Barn has accessible facilities including toilets, level floors, disabled toilet with changing table.

There are steps to the House, and stairs inside to the first floor. As a grade-I listed house, there is no lift.

Please note that due to the nature of our historic buildings and places, some may not be suitable for those with limited mobility or some disabilities.
