'Perry Pear Varieties to Rely On: A Fireblight Resistance Tasting'
Perry Pear trees can live to be hundreds of years old if conditions are right. But in a changing climate, dormant threats can awaken. Fireblight is a harmful bacteria that affects pome trees, and some pear varieties are particularly susceptible. An infected tree can perish within six months if the bacteria isn't removed by pruning in time. The good news is some native varieties of perry pear are demonstrating remarkable resistance, and orchardists are rushing to share their observations. Even better, some of these varieties taste particularly delicious, and in this short talk with Albert Johnson from Ross-on-Wye Cider & Perry Company, you'll be able to discover which those are.
Tickets are free and allotted on a first come, first served basis. A limited number of tickets are available in advance, any unreserved or unclaimed tickets will be available on the day from the museum's reception. If you can no longer use your allotted ticket, please get in touch with the museum team by contacting enquiries@cidermuseum.co.uk.
