An industry roundtable on increased fines, stricter smoke limits, and health warning labels
Defra's consultation is closed. The response is coming. Where does the sector stand?
The consultation on solid fuel burning drew a lot of attention, both from within our sector and from well beyond it, and it caused a fair amount of confusion about what was actually on the table. We're expecting the government's response and the outcome before the end of the year, and it could bring stricter emission limits on new appliances, mandatory health warning labels, and significantly increased penalties.
We submitted a response running to more than 25,000 words, covering emission limits, appliance and fuel labelling, penalties, and enforcement. We supported a good deal of what was proposed. We also found serious problems with parts of it. Now we want to bring the sector together to work through what happens next.
You'll hear where we stand and why, hear from voices across the industry who don't all agree with each other, and then contribute directly to the position we take forward.
WHAT YOU'LL GET OUT OF THE DAY
A detailed briefing on what the consultation actually proposed, what we argued for, and why we think it should happen
A panel of industry voices, with manufacturers, fuel suppliers, trainers, installers, and trade bodies working through the hard questions in public
An exclusive seat at one of three roundtables, where your input shapes what we push for next
Full notes from all three tables afterwards, shared with every attendee
Continued briefings as the response develops
