A visit to churches at Brackenborough, Fotherby and Little Grimsby
Dave Start and Jean Howard will lead this tour which takes in a near hidden corner close to Louth and begins with a guided tour of Brackenborough.
The event will start with a welcome from the Bennett family, plus tea and coffee with toilet facilities available. The visit to Brackenborough will include viewing the Deserted Mediaeval Village, moated Hall site, brick pit, award-winning converted coach house and recently conserved folly which was built of some masonry from the mediaeval Fotherby church.
Attendees will then drive to Fotherby where a buffet lunch will be provided at the modernised Fotherby church which has full toilet facilities. Following lunch there will be a short tour of the church and adjacent historic buildings. The event will finish at Little Grimsby where we will visit the delightful small church in the grounds of Little Grimsby Hall. (This has family connections with Redbourne Hall and church which we recently visited.) About a century ago the Hall was occupied by local MPs Tom and Margaret Wintringham (first British-born woman MP to take her seat in the House) who are buried here. We will also view the crash site of a Lancaster, the heroic crew of which are commemorated in the church and learn of the vulnerability of these marsh villages close to the Second World War airfields.
Please note:
Coffee on arrival will be served on the first floor of the coach house - no lift available
The visit to Brackenborough will include walking across a grassy field, please wear good footwear. The visit includes a talk about farming and conservation in all senses.
The buffet lunch will include vegetarian options
