Come and join us at a fabulous Family Arts session hosted by Thread and Press CIC. These exciting sessions have been funded by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council Arts Grant, allowing us to provide high quality art experiences to families in the East Riding of Yorkshire. This session is a SEND specialist session, for families with children with SEND.
In this exciting session, we show children and adults how to wet-felt and make wonderful images of animals, faces or abstract art! We believe in families making art together - so we welcome accompanying adults to join in too! Children and adults will learn how to use merino wool to layer and make wet-felted artwork. Felting is very relaxing, tactile and lots of fun! It can be adapted to all abilities and is suitable for taking regular breaks. This is a guided tuition session - follow Holly, an experienced art teacher, as she shows all participants how to make felt. There will be lots of inspirational examples and images ot help too. In our Family Arts sessions, we encourage accompanying adults to participate too. As well as supporting your child, you can learn how to make felt too, and enjoy a relaxing and fulfilling morning. You and your child will leave the session with fun printed fabrics and lots of new skills and inspiration.
These sessions are aimed at children aged 5+ and can be adapted to suit older learners. Younger siblings are welcome at the venue, there will be some colouring in to do, but please make sure they can be adequately supervised. All children participating will need to book a place, but accompanying adult joins inf or free (maximum of one accompanying adult per child). Please book places for children only (no need to book places for accompanying adult)
Our SEND specialist sessions include the following:
Small groups - only 6 child tickets available per session to keep numbers low
A calm and relaxed environment
Regular break opportunity - no missed learning
Welcoming to all learner needs
Focused on process and experience, rather than outcome.
All materials and equipment are provided. Felt can be a bit wet (and soapy) so please wear appropriate clothing. We do provide aprons.
Please note, this workshop may not be suitable for participants with a wool allergy. Gloves can be provided. We use washing up liquid for soap to make felt - if you need to use a specialist soap, please bring this with you in a labelled container.
Please feel free to bring a drink and a snack for your child (no nuts please). Any hot drinks that you bring must be in a sealed travel cup. Please note, at least one supervising adult is expected to stay with your child in this session.
These sessions are subsidised and therefore great value! However, places are limited and we politely ask that if you book and find you are unable to attend, that you notify us wherever possible so that another chid can participate and we can reallocate your ticket (and issue you a refund).
