About This Event

TAngerinecAt will present their emotionally charged live performance of "GRIEF" at UPSTAIRS INVERNESS on October 3, 2026, at 8 pm. The band weaves a rich tapestry of sounds and emotions, immersing listeners in a deeply resonant musical experience. Ticket prices range from £13.70 to £20.00, providing an opportunity for audience members to engage with music that feels as much a part of their experience as the clothes they wear.

For the first time in Inverness — sound & performance art, rare Ukrainian folklore field recordings, and a night unlike anything before.

tAngerinecAt is the project of Zhenia Purpurovsky — Welsh-Ukrainian producer, composer, classically trained multi-instrumentalist, poet and sound artist with 35 years of musical practice — and Paul Chilton, sound artist and multi-instrumentalist. Both are based in Wales. They met in Ukraine, where Paul lived for nineteen years.

GRIEF, their latest album, was recorded in Eryri and released on their own imprint, Annwn Records. It takes Welsh mythological figures as guides through collective grief and transformation — a fierce anti-war, anti-fascist statement.

Live, the duo work as much with light, movement and silence as with sound. The result is closer to performance art than to a conventional gig: a single unbroken arc, held without pause, in which the audience is not an observer but a participant.

What the press says:

"Chilling and unsettlingly beautiful." — BBC Wales

"The triumph of art and the human spirit... It's all about the atmosphere, the tension and the spaces between the sound. There are moments of silence within the set when you can practically hear a pin drop. The lack of chatter between songs ensures the spell remains unbroken." — Andy Brown, Louder Than War

"Pulling you into what feels less like a gig and more like stepping into a ritual already in motion. By the end, it doesn't feel like you've watched a performance so much as you've been carried through one." — Shaun Histed-Todd, The Snuff Monkey Radio Show

"In the unique atmosphere of Stoke Newington's Old Church... standing together against division, with music as a unifying energy." — Blau Rosen

What audiences say:

"One of the most mystical and intense music experiences I've been to."

"Absolutely mesmerising from start to finish — sometimes I just closed my eyes and felt the music. Transportative, entrancing, utterly compelling. I will go and see tAngerinecAt every possible time I can."

"A fantastic concert — more like a ritual incantation, trance-like, a drumbeat of doom and delight, swathed in a mesmerising soundscape."

"It was like you were wearing the music as it washed over you."

"It felt like direct contact on a profound level. I experienced a literal passage through death."

“Revolutionaries don’t repeat those around them but create something of their own.”

A fully independent, DIY project with a worldwide following earned track by track, on their own terms. Wave-Gotik-Treffen. Hradby Samoty. Mėnuo Juodaragis. Touring across the UK and Europe.

Music that doesn't decorate. It transforms.

Special Guest: The Dyr Sister

Dyr is old norse for Deer (pronounced the same)

The Dyr Sister is your friendly local spirit animal!

The Dyr Sister's Fairy-tales for the Modern Gentleman is an ever-growing compendium of anti-ballads chronicling the banality of modern existence.

Combining contemporary folk with post-hiphop and electronic music genres the Dyr Sisters songs are delivered with driving percussive beats via a backdrop of strings, synths and haunting ethereal vocals. This is a devastatingly beautiful expression of what it means to be alive and kicking and still telling tales in these bleak times.

"The Dyr Sister sounds like some wonderful collaboration between Thom Yorke and Shirley"- Fred Perry Subculture
