An epic road adventure from Leeds through Europe, Turkey, Iran, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and back

In the summer of 2025, two friends from Leeds United Kingdom, Zahide and Murat, set out on the eight-week Silk Road Rally, driving thousands of miles from the UK to the legendary Pamir Highway. Alongside fellow rally participants, they cross Europe, Turkey, Iran, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, experiencing breathtaking landscapes, ancient trade routes, and cultures shaped by centuries of history.

But reaching the Pamirs is only half the story.

After the rally concludes in Tajikistan, the journey takes a very different turn. Leaving the security of the group behind, the pair continue alone for the long drive home. With just one vehicle and each other to rely on, they navigate Afghanistan and a wartime Iran, facing uncertain borders, unfamiliar roads, and the unpredictability of independent travel through some of the world’s most complex regions.

Blending awe-inspiring scenery with deeply personal moments, Between Boarders is more than a road trip documentary. It’s a story about the kindness of strangers, the bonds forged through shared adversity, and the enduring spirit of exploration. From soaring mountain passes and endless deserts to vibrant cities and tense border crossings, this is an intimate portrait of a once-in-a-lifetime journey that reveals how travel can bridge worlds that often seem far apart.
