On 27th September 1936 30,000 gathered on Holbeck Moor in Leeds to oppose Oswald Mosley and 1000 of his Blackshirts. It is the greatest anti-fascist victory in Leeds’ history. It was part of a series of gatherings where anti-fascists tried to stop Mosley and his fascists message of hate. A week after the Battle of Holbeck Moor even greater numbers gathered in the East End of London at the Battle of Cable Street. 2026 will see a series of events celebrating the 90th anniversary of these victories against Mosley.

Our Leeds Stand Up To Racism event starts at 5pm on Holbeck Moor by the Leeds Civic Trust Blue Plaque which is situated on St Matthews Community Centre, celebrating the battle. (St Matthews St LS119NR). Please bring your banners and flags! We will walk together the short distance to the home of Slung Low at The Warehouse In Holbeck (Crosby Street, Holbeck Leeds, LS11 9RQ).

The indoor part of our event will start with stalls and food. Please book to guarantee your meal.

At 6.15pm we will start the meeting. Mark Krantz, author of “Bye Bye Blackshirt”, a comprehensive account of the campaigns against Mosley, will be joined by speakers about the Battle of Holbeck Moor. This will be followed by discussion and some music. We aim to finish at 9pm.

Book your food here (chicken or vegetarian option). Please help us to fund future events by paying a solidarity or super solidarity price if you can, or make a donation.
