Beyond the Screen – A Hands-On LEGO® Serious Play® Session

Summary

This workshop uses LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®to bring the NUX Leeds community together in a playful, interactive and hands-on session. Led by certified facilitator Angel Takooree, it creates a safe and supportive space for participants to reflect, share experiences, and connect with others in the region.

No previous experience of LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® or building with LEGO® is needed. Angel will briefly cover how this methodology was used in UCD project with a very short presentation.

This playful activity invites conversations, boosts creativity, and offers a refreshing break away from our screens. Join us to build not just models, but meaningful connections.

Leave this session with more than you arrived with. You will gain hands-on experience of LEGO® Serious Play®, a creative methodology used by organisations worldwide, and a new way of thinking and communicating that stays with you long after the bricks are packed away.

Bio

Angel Takooree is a workshop experience designer and facilitator with over 25 years of experience across more than 36 organisations, from startups to global brands. Founder of Dot and Dash Consulting, she is a certified facilitator of LEGO® Serious Play® and uses playful, hands-on methods to help teams solve complex problems and turn insight into action.

She is co-founder of Facilitate Sheffield and recently served as Conference Co-Chair for the International Association of Facilitators 2026. She runs and hosts events within a community for neurodivergent entrepreneurs, solopreneurs and freelancers and is developing an app to support this niche group.

Workshop Structure

The session runs for 90 minutes and is divided into two parts, we will embark on a guided exploration:

Part 1 – Building Core Skills (30–40 minutes)

Participants are introduced to the LEGO® Serious Play® method through a series of warm-up builds. These exercises build confidence with the bricks, introduce storytelling and metaphor, and help participants begin to think and communicate differently.

Part 2 – Briefly exploring topics of UX and Service Design (30–40 minutes)

This activity takes place in small groups of 4 to 8 per table. The session closes with a brief group reflection.
