The event will comprise a facility tour and company overview at CorroCoat, together with a technical presentation by Simon Daly (Safinah) on the selection and installation of internal coatings for pressure vessels. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss application, specification and performance considerations during the Q&A session.

Abstract: The application of protective coatings is a critical consideration in the maintenance and operation of pressure vessels subjected to elevated temperatures and pressures. While coatings are widely utilized for structural steel protection, their selection and implementation for pressure systems require significantly greater scrutiny. The consequences of improper coating selection or application are magnified by challenges such as limited access to internal surfaces in operational environments and external insulation that can obscure inspection opportunities. Undetected corrosion in pressurized systems, particularly those containing hydrocarbons, can lead to catastrophic outcomes, underscoring the importance of a systematic approach to coating selection and maintenance.

Biography: Simon Daly is a Senior Consultant at Safinah, with over 35 years of specialized experience in protective coatings within the oil and gas sector. His career has been dedicated to the development, specification, and implementation of advanced linings and repair methodologies for storage tanks and pressure vessels, addressing the demanding requirements of high-performance industrial environments.

He currently chairs the ISO TC67 WG 11 TG 3 committee, where he oversees the development and maintenance of ISO 18796-1 and ISO 18796-2, standards that govern the internal coatings of pressure vessels. In addition, he serves as co-convenor for the collaboration between ISO TC 107 and TC 35, contributing to the development of a dedicated International Standard for offshore wind applications.

Simon’s extensive expertise and leadership in the field continue to shape industry practices and international standards, ensuring innovative and reliable solutions for complex coating challenges.
