QHCN organises annual symposia to showcase and explore innovative queer heritage practice being developed in the sector

The Queer Heritage and Collection Symposium aims to explore the innovative and meaningful queer heritage practice being developed by cultural organisations across the UK and beyond. It will include presentations from open submissions and invited keynote speakers and panels.

This page is for in-person attendance at the University of Leicester on 11 November 2026 ONLY. More details about the venue will be released soon.

If you book a place to attend in person, you will also receive a link to join the event online on 10 November.

The symposium will showcase innovative, experimental and emerging approaches to researching and publicly presenting queer histories, lives and communities.

The Queer Heritage and Collections Network is formed of a partnership between National Trust, English Heritage, Historic England, Historic Royal Palaces and Research Centre for Museums and Galleries (University of Leicester) supported financially by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

The Queer Heritage and Collections Network aims to achieve a step change in the capacities and confidence of everyone who works with LGBTIQA+ heritage (including museums and heritage bodies) by supporting them to be world leading in the way they use heritage to increase public understanding of, access to, and engagement with LGBTIQA+ heritage.
