Safeguarding for the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) training
The safeguarding of children and their protection is an essential task for everyone working with children and young people.
The training takes a step-by-step approach to ensure the DSL is not only trained but confident and skilled. They will learn and know how to establish an open and positive safeguarding culture in their setting, that effectively puts children’s interests first. Learners will explore the factors, situations and actions that could lead or contribute to abuse harm and neglect. The training provides information on legislation, local policies and procedures and national guidance, and sets out how to recognise, respond, record, and refer safeguarding concerns.
Session aims:
· Consider the importance of safeguarding and child protection for the DSL.
· Develop a clear understanding of the role of the DSL.
· Understand how local and national research, legislation, guidance and knowledge informs best practice for safeguarding children.
· Know how to recognise and respond to risks which may increase the risk of harm.
· Understand the referral process and the DSL role within that.
· Understand how to create a culture of safeguarding including safer working practices.
· Understand the range of possible signs, symptoms and indicators of abuse and the factors, situations and actions that could lead or contribute to abuse, harm or neglect.
· Consider how diversity, race, culture, belief, and bias should and could be considered.
· Understand how to respond, record and effectively refer concerns in a timely and appropriate way internally and externally.
· Know what actions to take when there are concerns about a colleague.
This course is only suitable to people who have previously attended the Core Awarness in Safeguarding Children Course
