Painting Problems: Into the Woods is a workshop at Studio 4 in Leicester. The session explores trees and woods as inspiration for contemporary painting using sketches and preparatory studies. Tickets cost between £66 and £88.
This event will be bookable on Monday 3 August 2026. Exploring trees and woods as inspiration for contemporary painting. Using sketches, preparatory studies, plus all the digital media available, we will explore trees and woods as subjects in contemporary painting. Over the four weeks, tutor Jenny will set projects to produce a body of work using various media and approaches. Artists such as Ivon Hitchens, Gustav Klimt, Peter Doig, and Kurt Jackson will provide inspiration. This course is suitable for anyone willing to take risks and experiment to move their practice forward. Many different approaches, including abstract interpretations, will be encouraged and we’ll experiment with a range of media and techniques, including collage and mixed media. An A4 sketchbook will be kept for reference (provided) and you are welcome to include some of your prior work and experimentation if you wish to. Group discussion and positive criticism alongside individual support from the tutor will ensure you develop your ideas in a supportive environment. Optional extended study will be provided each week for those who wish to take their ideas further in their own time. About the tutor: Jenny Grevatte is a professional artist and writer who is a gallery artist at the Goldmark Gallery in Uppingham. She has work in many public and private collections, including Leicester Museum, and has been teaching at Attenborough Arts since 1984. Further information: Participants must be aged 18+. All levels of experience are welcome and all materials are provided. If the course/workshop you’d like to book is sold out, we do operate a waiting list – simply contact our box office team on 0116 252 2455 / arts-centre@le.ac.uk and ask to be added to the waiting list.
