About This Event

Join lead researcher Deborah Moxom for an exclusive evening talk and Q&A on the history and legacy of the iconic Alexandra Bedspread. About this event Join us at the Generator for an evening dedicated to one of Loughborough’s most fascinating historical treasures: the Alexandra Bedspread. Created between 1922 and 1923, this unique textile masterpiece was a community fundraising initiative to help fund the town’s iconic Carillon Tower. Featuring over 500 embroidered signatures—including those of Queen Alexandra and Winston Churchill—each square holds a story of the people who shaped our town in the wake of the First World War. We are very pleased to host lead researcher Deborah Moxom, who will take us on a journey through her research, uncovering the lives of the local shopkeepers, nurses, and factory workers whose names are stitched into this historic piece. The talk will be followed by a live Q&A session led by Dr. Jill Vincent, offering a unique opportunity to explore the bedspread's history including its connection to those who built the Generator, Herbert Morris and Dr Schofield. Programme: 7:00 PM: Doors open for the evening talk starting at 7:30pm. 8:30 PM: Live Q&A session with Deborah Moxom and Dr. Jill Vincent. Venue Information This event will be held at The Generator, a recently restored heritage venue and community arts centre.
