Join us for a relaxed and welcoming Where We Come From workshop, where we will travel back in time through memories, traditions and personal stories – from memories of the places you came from to your first impressions and experiences of arriving in Leicester.

Everyone has a story to tell. You don't need to be a historian or prepare anything special. We are interested in your everyday memories and experiences – the places, people, food and traditions that shaped you, your journey to Leicester, what you remember about arriving here, and how Leicester has become part of your story.

What might we talk about?

Where you or your family come from

Childhood and family memories

Food, celebrations and traditions

Places, sounds and smells that remind you of home

Your journey to Leicester

Your first memories and impressions of arriving in the city

What surprised you or felt different when you first arrived

Building a life and finding a sense of belonging in Leicester

What has changed and which traditions you have kept

What "home" means to you today

What you would like future generations to know about your heritage

If you have old photographs, objects, recipes or other items connected to your memories, you are very welcome to bring them along – but this is completely optional.

This is an informal and friendly session. Come along, enjoy a free lunch, meet others and share the memories and experiences that make up our collective heritage.

Where we come from matters. Where we are now matters too. Our stories are part of Leicester's heritage.
