Make, taste and discover Eastern European dishes while sharing stories of food, family, migration, memories and heritage.
oin us for a hands-on food heritage workshop exploring Eastern European traditions, migration and memories through three much-loved dishes.
Together, we will make, taste and discover the stories behind:
🌿 Latvian Sorrel Soup – a seasonal soup connected with home gardens and family cooking traditions.
🥔 Lithuanian Cepelinai – traditional potato dumplings named after their distinctive zeppelin shape.
🥟 Polish Pierogi – filled dumplings made using recipes and techniques passed down through generations.
The traditional food-making experience will be led by local community members with roots in Eastern Europe. Some run their own local food businesses, while others are part of our community garden cooking team. They will bring their own experiences, family traditions and personal connections to the dishes they share.
Alongside cooking and tasting, we'll hear the stories behind the food. Who taught them to make these dishes? When would their families eat them? What memories do the tastes and smells bring back? And what happened to these recipes and traditions when people moved to the UK?
This isn't just about learning recipes. As we prepare, taste and eat together, we'll explore how food connects us to people, places, family and home – and how traditions travel with us when we move somewhere new.
Participants will also be invited to share their own food memories, family traditions and migration stories.
This event is for everyone! You don't need to be an experienced cook or have Eastern European roots. Whether you're from Eastern Europe or simply curious about its food and heritage, everyone is welcome to make, taste, listen, share and discover.
