Thinking Out Loud: Teaching and Role-Modelling Clinical Reasoning

As we launch the new independent LMS medical curriculum we would like to invite you to an education event on Clinical Reasoning. One of the strengths of the new curriculum is that we will embed clinical reasoning throughout the five years of the programme. We are very keen that all staff involved in facilitating small groups for clinical cases and those who provide any clinical teaching or supervision have the opportunity to learn about this new strand of the course.

By the end of this session, educators will be able to;

Explain why clinical reasoning is hard to teach explicitly and its importance for our medical students.

Use at least two structured techniques to make students' reasoning visible, including illness script formation and the clinical reasoning cycle.

Understand the Lincoln Medical School Clinical Reasoning Toolkit and how to use it.

Understand how to consciously role-model their own clinical reasoning, including uncertainty and error, in everyday clinical teaching.

Description supplied by the event organiser.
