Join RIBA President Chris Williamson at RIBA North for a discussion of Architecture through the story of the new Maggie’s Liverpool. Taking place within RIBA North’s ‘Just come in’: 30 Years of Maggie’s Centres exhibition, the event brings together the RIBA President and voices connected to Maggie’s,, healthcare and the architectural profession for a conversation about what it really means to design for people at some of the most difficult moments in their lives. At the heart of the evening is a deceptively simple question: How do you design a building that people facing one of the most difficult moments of their lives actually want to walk into? From 30 years of Maggie’s to Liverpool’s next chapter The future Maggie’s Liverpool provides a timely opportunity to explore how the principles that have shaped Maggie’s centres over the past three decades are being interpreted for Liverpool today. The panel will explore the journey from need and vision to site, design and delivery and, ultimately, to the experience of the people who will use the building. Together, the speakers will consider how architecture can move beyond providing functional space to create places characterised by welcome, dignity, comfort, choice and belonging. Chris Williamson, RIBA President, will bring a wider architectural and professional perspective to the discussion, reflecting on what projects such as Maggie’s can teach us about the value of architecture and its capacity to positively influence people’s everyday lives. An evening within the exhibition The event takes place within ‘Just come in’: 30 Years of Maggie’s Centres, giving guests the opportunity to experience the exhibition alongside the panel discussion and continue the conversation over drinks. Whether you are an architect, designer, healthcare professional, student, client, researcher or simply interested in how the places around us influence how we feel, join RIBA President Chris Williamson and our invited panel at RIBA North for an evening exploring one of architecture’s most human questions: how can the places we design help people feel cared for?
