Prof Kelvin To will give a talk entitled 'Emerging infections in Hong Kong: Looking back and moving forward' followed by a drinks reception.

This talk is part of the Liverpool - Hong Kong Symposium, supported by The Shaw Foundation.

This plenary will include introductions from Prof Tom Solomon, Director of TPI, as well as Prof David Lalloo (LSTM), Prof Cathy Montgomery (LJMU), and Prof Shakila Thangaratinam (UoL), with a drinks reception to follow the talk.

Prof Kelvin To, Chairperson of the Department of Microbiology at the University of Hong Kong, will provide a brief history of infectious disease research in Hong Kong, from the 1880s to the 1990s, touching on how the Avian Influenza H5N1 outbreak and 2003 SARS affected Hong Kong, novel pathogen discoveries and their significance, and novel mechanistic insights in viral-host interactions over the last decade.
