Parkgate Port and Resort

Renowned local historian Anthony Annakin-Smith delves deep into the fascinating history of Parkgate, charting its transformation from a busy thriving port to the home of now-famous ice creams and a leisurely resort. Join us for this incredible journey through time.

Anthony lives in Parkgate and is a well-known local researcher, writer and speaker on the history of the Wirral and west Cheshire. He also often leads local walks and has published a very popular book of ‘Wirral Walks’ which has been in print for eighteen years. He has also written a well-received book on the Neston collieries.

He has always had a keen interest in original historical research including into industrial, landscape and social history. He has also spent much time studying the maritime history of Parkgate and the Dee Estuary - you may have seen him talking on the BBC’s ‘Villages by the Sea’. He is therefore delighted to share the story of ‘Parkgate Port & Resort’ with us today.
