View all →About This Event
The exhibition at Chartwell explores the image and power of Britain's wartime Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. The display is located in the Uniform Room and features donated items. Admission is required to view the exhibition.
Discover how Britain’s wartime Prime Minister became one of the most recognisable figures of the 20th century.
Thanks to generous donations and legacies from our supporters, the Uniform Room at Chartwell has been transformed. We are now able to showcase Sir Winston Churchill’s recently conserved uniforms on specially designed mannequins. These have been carefully posed to reflect how he stood, walked, or addressed a crowd.
See Churchill’s Siren Suit, the precursor to the onesie featured in the National Trust’s recent book ‘100 Things to Wear’ as well as iconic uniforms and other special items.
To see the restored room and uniforms, purchase a timed-entry ticket for the house from the Visitor Centre. The house is open on a timed-ticketed, self-led basis. Opening dates and times vary throughout the year, so please check our home page 'opening times' for the date you would like to visit.
House tickets can be purchased from 10am on the day in the Visitor Centre on a first come, first served basis. When you arrive, the Visitor Welcome team will offer you the next available time slot.
To help those travelling from further away, a limited number of house tickets for afternoon timeslots are available to book in advance. Please see the ‘Planning your visit to Chartwell’ page of our website for further information.
