For the fourth edition of Dark Energy, stalwarts Bantu and Dhangsha are joined by EvaneH and Praudh. Praudh (pronounced ‘proud’) is a London based South Asian producer incorporating distortion and noise in to live electronic performance to create gritty atmospheres that transcend sonic realism - exploring the unnatural and unheard through processing and resampling. EvaneH is a sound artist who reworks reggaeton, trap and drum & bass into bass-driven soundscapes where distorted textures meet low end rhythms. They explore the sonic tensions of cultural hybridity, balancing melancholic melodies and textural percussion. Bantu juxtaposes incisive drones and bass pulses with heavily manipulated Nyabinghi drum loops, layering passages of historical and contemporary spoken word on top to produce a “Black Noise” provocative in both sound and text. Dhangsha underpins alien call and response motifs with electronic beats inspired by clavé and traditional hand drum patterns. He impacts the entire mix with ‘simulated speaker damage’ processing to create belligerent de-colonial dance textures.
