About This Event

The film 'Designing from Home' will be shown at the Isokon Gallery on September 24, 2026, starting at 17:30. This screening explores the twentieth-century designer FHK Henrion and costs £15.00.

This film explores the twentieth-century designer FHK Henrion, a German-Jewish émigré, displaced many times before arriving in Britain.

Settling in Hampstead, North London with his wife sculptor Daphne Hardy Henrion and his children, FHK Henrion went on to design some of the world's most recognisable brands including the packaging for Tate & Lyle sugar and the corporate identity for KLM. 'Designing From Home' draws on little-seen original material from Henrion's archive, held at the Design Archives at the University of Brighton, as well as interviews with Henrion's four children, filmed in the extraordinary Hampstead house which was the family home for almost 80 years.

The film will be followed by a Q&A with Dr Sue Breakell and Dr Harriet Atkinson from University of Brighton Design Archives, who created the film. Designing From Home was was awarded best Short Documentary at the London Independant Film Festival in 2026, and nominated for the Berlin Women Cinema Festival 2025.
