This is a practical and interactive course with a training approach of “#trainforreal and first aid training is a contact sport”. You will be working with other students and get plenty of opportunities to put in practice your first aid skills and knowledge. The goal is to make you more confident and competent first aider.
It is valid for 3 years and is specifically tailored for creative industries workers.
This qualification will help with employability as well as your safety, and that of your work colleagues, by improving the first aid cover on a call sheet.
What you will learn:
Outline the SAFE approach
Outline the management of scalds
Discuss the recognition of shock
State the management steps for shock
Perform, in a simulated setting, basic life support
Demonstrate, in a simulated setting, management of choking
Place a casualty in the recovery position
Outline the management of a casualty with chest pain
State the management steps for a casualty who has fainted
Outline the management of a casualty who is convulsing
Demonstrate, in a simulated setting, use of direct pressure to control bleeding
Demonstrate, in a simulated setting, use of elevation to control bleeding
Outline the management of burns
Demonstrate, in a simulated setting, initial management of suspected fractures
Discuss recognition and management of common major illness
List contents of available first aid kits.

The one day course costs £155 and there is a discounted rate of £120 for BECTU members.
Time of course: 9.30am - 5.00pm.
Tea, coffee, water and biscuits will be provided. There is also a fridge and microwave you can use. There are plenty of cafes and sandwich places nearby to purchase food.
Please note that the union does not offer car parking.
Cancellation Policy: We appreciate that when circumstances change you may no longer be able to attend a training course you have already booked and paid for.
While we will always try our best to accommodate any alterations to your plans, the BECTU sector of Prospect has a standard cancellation policy which is as follows:
Individual bookings
If you notify us by phone or email at least seven full days before the course date, you will not be charged and will be refunded in full any course fees you have paid.
Cancellations less than seven full days before the course date will be charged at 50% of the total course fee, with 50% refunded.
Cancellations less than two working days before the event will not be refunded.
If you do not attend the course and/or fail to notify us in advance, you will be charged the full course fee.
We are unable to reimburse any non-transferable travel or accommodation expenses that may arise from a course being rescheduled or cancelled.
BECTU sector reserves the right to cancel courses without liability. However, where possible, delegates will be offered an alternative date or a full refund.
