Ready for the hanging? Discover London’s forgotten female criminals in a dramatic talk with re‑enactment and storytelling.

London has a long, dark legacy of trial, punishment and execution. The stories (and grisly ends) of Jack Sheppard, Captain Kidd and many other male criminals of London lore are well known and documented. But what about the women?

Join us for an evening exploring the forgotten female felons of London's past from the 19th to early 20th century.

In this engaging session, Maria Beadell and co-star Melissa from Herstorical Tours will introduce you, through storytelling and dramatic re-enactment, to:

A 22 year old 'Criminal Mastermind'

A 'poisonous' domestic servant

A murderous foster carer

A cunning courtesan.

The session also examines how female criminals were perceived and treated during this period, the influence of class and race, and whether things have changed much today in the criminal justice system, and in society as a whole.

CONTENT TRIGGER WARNING: The evening contains themes of murder, abuse, child abuse, violence and sex. The evening will also include dramatic reenactments of executions that may be triggering to some.

What to expect:

This event will be taking place in-person only at The London Archives on a Thursday evening.

The London Archives will close at 4.30pm, and will reopen for ticket holders at 6pm.

The performance will last approximately 80 minutes, and will be followed by additional time for Q&A.

Your ticket includes a drink on arrival.
