About Franz & Marie

Franz & Marie at The Arches, London is a stage adaptation of Georg Büchner’s Woyzeck, set in the world of late 19th-century European folklore. It follows Franz Woyzeck, a soldier stationed at an isolated outpost after front-line action, as he struggles with nightmares, hallucinations and the need to provide for Marie and their baby, Georgie.

Originally commissioned two decades ago by the award-winning Korean company Acom and created by key members of The Singing Loins, this production has been reimagined as a musical with a 14-strong cast of actor-musicians. It is directed by Michael Oakley and adapted for the stage by Teresa Howard, with music by Rob Shepherd and Chris Broderick of The Singing Loins.
