Welcome to Waterstones Gower Street's Forgotten Fiction Book Club - the book club that might just answer these questions for you.

The Forgotten Fiction Book Club aims to rediscover great writers who have been unjustly neglected or have fallen out of print. Each month, we will be reading books from a plethora of genres including Science Fiction, Literary Fiction, Crime and much more!

For our September meeting we will be discussing the works of acclaimed author and poet Dan Davin. Born in New Zealand, and with a circle of friends among the likes of Dylan Thomas and Louis Macniece, Davin’s work explored themes surrounding his Irish-Catholic upbringing and post-war tensions.

Of Davin, his friend Chris Laidlaw spoke ‘[there was] an abiding sadness about Dan; a melancholy that sprang, I think, from his frustration at being a prophet without honour in his own country...He was an early victim of the great New Zealand clobbering machine and often warned me to beware of this.'

Tickets cost £5 and include 10% off a drink at Downstairs at Dillons.

The following month's pick will be available for £5 at our secondhand department.
