Hear the Stories - See the Documents: Over, Under, Across will occur at The London Archives on 18 December 2026. This event features a document display related to London's river crossings, with tickets costing £10.
This event includes a document display - get hands-on with a range of materials which tell the story of London’s river crossings.
If you want to get from one side of a river to the other you have three choices: go over, go under or go across.
This session accompanies the Over, Under and Across series of talks throughout the autum which explore how Londoners have done all three and in doing so created feats of engineering, iconic landmarks and enduring traditions.
Come along to see historical documents that tell the story of London's river crossings, including many of the original records and images featured throughout the talks.
This a chance for you to see and handle:
Unbuilt designs for Tower Bridge which include tunnels, hydraulic lifts, and swing bridges
Contemporary prints charting the building and opening of the Thames tunnel
Maps and prints giving us a glimpse into the almost forgotten world of the Thames waterman
