Slacks, flicks and slots... a Jazz Age architectural appreciation tour in London's West End Slacks, flicks and slots refers to trousers, moving pictures and coin-operated machines – three subjects that are touched on throughout the tour. We start within Piccadilly tube station, one of London Underground's best-designed Art Deco booking halls with its circular concourse and display cases – the exact meeting place will be supplied after ticket purchase – please see the Q&As below. We then head up to pavement level to look at some impressive interwar buildings – shops, offices, hotels and, of course, various places of entertainment such as theatres and cinemas. You'll hear the stories behind the façades and learn about the people and businesses associated with them. We'll will also venture inside a couple of buildings to look at some marvellously preserved Art Deco interiors. There's a lot of 'wow' on this route including some recent constructions that are clearly inspired by the aesthetics of the inter-war era. ...................................... The tour lasts just under two hours and ends at Leicester Square tube station. The exact meeting point will be clearly described on your ticket and confirmation – See more in the FAQs below ...................................... Customer feedback: "I was amazed, especially by a couple of the buildings you showed us. Thanks so much and see you again soon." / "Thanks for opening my eyes Jane" / "The interior fittings of that shop are amazing – I had no idea about that – thanks!!" / "Such an interesting walk... we really enjoyed it and you introduced us to some beautiful buildings." / "As someone who thought he knew this area well, I am embarrassed to admit I had never before noticed half the things you showed us!" / More feedback here (http://www.janeslondonwalks.com/2019/07/feedback.html) Other Art Deco walks and talks available – please check my listings or see www.janeslondonwalks.com (http://www.janeslondonwalks.com/) My guiding style is inclusive, open and friendly. I design and research every tour myself – in fact, the research never ends. I am particularly interested in the architecture of our ever-changing streets and the little details on and above them.
