A deep listening experience in The Listening Room at Moonrays, 7 Denmark Street.

Hosted by celebrated electric bass, tabla and Indian flute-player Shri Sriram, this intimate session invites you to sit back and listen closely to The Inner Mounting Flame by The Mahavishnu Orchestra. The recording reveals a ferocious collision of jazz improvisation, rock power and Indian-influenced rhythms, driven by John McLaughlin’s extraordinary guitar playing. More than 50 years later, it still sounds thrillingly dangerous: virtuosic, intense and constantly on the edge of coming apart. The album will be played on vinyl through the Moonrays reference sound system.

Along the way, Shri will share observations, stories and a musician’s perspective on the songs, arrangements and performances — revealing details you may never have heard before.
