Recite a poem from memory - for charity and cake!

Back in 1995, Nicholas Albery (https://www.theguardian.com/news/2001/jun/08/guardianobituaries.books) (social innovator, author, activist, and self-confessed poetry super fan) had an idea: what if memorising and performing poetry could raise money for charity? (Turns out it's genuinely tough — which is half the fun.) He launched the London Poetry Challenge, and people have been coming together ever since to celebrate poetry in all its forms.

We're thrilled to be running the event for the third year at St Margaret's House, a wonderful Arts and Wellbeing charity who generously host us each year.

How it works:

This is a joyfully amateur affair - no pressure, just love, support and appreciation

Each performer takes the stage for 2–4 minutes of material (one poem or several, your call)

Prefer to sing, or perform in another language? Go for it!

Fundraising is optional but warmly encouraged and performers manage their own charitable giving

The details:

Tickets are £6 per performer, with all proceeds going to charity

Bring a guest along for free to cheer you on

Space is limited to 35 performers (plus one guest each), so you'll need a ticket to secure your spot (and 1 for your guest!)
