About Tosca
Tosca is an opera set in a concert hall in an unidentified European state overtaken by civil conflict. Opera singer Floria Tosca plans a secret meeting with her lover, the painter Mario Cavaradossi, but when the corrupt police chief Scarpia intervenes, the setting shifts from music to fear and violence.
Over the course of one night, Tosca is forced to fight for her love, her honour and her life. It can be experienced as a stand-alone performance, or as a companion piece to Kaija Saariaho’s Adriana Mater as part of ENO’s 2026/27 season, where both operas contribute to a wider exploration of the human cost of war and the resilience of the human spirit.
