A writing group titled 'Why We Write' will be held on 14 November 2026 at MayDay Rooms in London. Led by writer Natasha Samrai, the session will focus on exploring the motivations behind writing and fostering a community among participants. The group aims to create a structured environment for writing and discussion.
The session is structured and guided around one main question. What moves us, and what can we move?
Join us for a writing group guided by Natasha Samrai, a space to write, be heard, and find your people.
Natasha is a writer, facilitator and early career director from London. Her creative practice takes seriously the responsibility of artists to make the revolution irresistible. Her work is driven by a social concern for justice and a spiritual interest in synchronicity. She is currently working on her debut novel, WHAT ARE LITTLE GIRLS MADE OF?
Over the last year we've built reading groups across the country, where people meet to read and learn in order to act together. Our writing groups add to that, a space where we write in company as well as read in it.
The session is structured and guided around one main question. What moves us, and what can we move? It starts with the most basic question of all, which is why we write. We'll go back to why we started, why we keep going, and the moments we've wondered what the point is. We'll think about the book that changed how you saw something, or the song that got you out of bed. We'll also think about the piece you wrote that no one read, and that you wrote anyway.
We will start with shared prompts, which give everyone some common ground before you open into your own writing. After that we will read each other's work and respond to it with care.
If you've been waiting for a reason to start, or to start again, this is it.
Tickets are £15. £8 for members. Places are capped at 20 so everyone gets time and attention in the room.
All levels are welcome.
