The Hall McKnight Lecture will take place at BDP in Manchester on 2026-09-17, with Alastair Hall discussing various topics as part of the MSA Lecture Series.
As we return from the summer break, we’re pleased to welcome Alastair Hall of Hall McKnight to Manchester as part of the MSA Lecture Series.
Established in Belfast in 2003, Hall McKnight’s work is grounded in a close reading of place. Their architecture responds to the layers of history, landscape, materiality and use that make each site distinctive, with the particular character of a place becoming a starting point for design.
This thoughtful, contextual approach can be seen across the practice, from the MAC in Belfast, where a contemporary cultural building draws on the scale, materiality and robust character of the city’s historic architecture, to the Colin Connect Transport Hub, where architecture and public space come together to establish a new civic presence within a changing part of the city.
There is a strong sense of craft and permanence throughout their work, alongside an interest in how new buildings can sit within, and contribute to what is already there. Working across cultural, civic, residential and adaptive reuse projects, Hall McKnight’s work has been recognised with RIBA National Awards, the Downes Medal and numerous other national and international awards.
Join us as Alastair reflects on Hall McKnight’s practice and projects, exploring how their approach to place, material and context informs their design process.
