The pub quiz for people who spend far too much time thinking about brands, campaigns and what’s happening on the internet.

Think you know your Aldi campaigns from your Lidl ones? Have the hundreds of campaigns you’ve seen this year actually stuck in your brain? And do you reckon your team knows more than everyone else in the room? Gather your PR pals and prepare to find out.

This November, The PR Insider is swapping the newsletter for the pub and bringing the PR and marketing community together in Manchester for our first-ever pub quiz.

We wanted to create something a little different from the usual industry event, where meeting people comes naturally because you’re working out an answer together, remembering a brilliant campaign or politely disagreeing over which brand was behind it.

Expect six rounds covering PR and marketing, memorable campaigns, pop culture and general knowledge, with picture rounds, campaign throwbacks and plenty of opportunities to put all that scrolling to good use.

And because bragging rights only get you so far, the winning team will receive £100 to donate to a charity of their choice and a £100 bar tab for the next PR Pub Quiz.

What are we actually doing?

Doors will open from approximately 6pm, giving everyone time to grab a drink, find their table and meet their teammates before the quiz starts at 6.30pm.

We’ll work through six rounds, with breaks for drinks and a chance to chat between questions. Some will test your industry knowledge, others will give the person who remembers every obscure pop culture moment their time to shine.

At the end of the evening, we’ll add up the scores and crown the first-ever The PR Insider Pub Quiz champions, with prizes announced by approximately 9.30pm and time for drinks afterwards.

Who’s it for?

Anyone working in PR, marketing, communications, social, digital PR or the wider creative industry, whether you’re in an agency, in-house, freelance, studying or just starting out.

You might read The PR Insider every Monday, or you might be coming because a competitive colleague has decided you’re essential to their team. Either way, you’re very welcome.

The idea is to bring people from across the industry together with something to do and something to talk about, without the awkward introductions that can come with traditional networking.

Coming on your own?

You don’t need a ready-made team to join us. We’ll have individual tickets and full-team tickets available, and anyone booking individually will be grouped with other attendees, so you'll have people to sit with and compete alongside.

If you’ve already assembled your team, you can book together as a team of up to six people. Mixed teams of friends, colleagues and freelancers are welcome too.

What kind of questions are we talking?

We’ll start with a round on what’s happening in the news, putting the stories we follow as PRs to the test and finding out how much of that morning media scan actually sank in.

Across the six rounds, expect to recognise campaigns from images, figure out which brand was behind a stunt, and remember stories you definitely saw on social six months ago. There’ll be general knowledge too, plus a few questions where being chronically online might finally work in your favour.

No revision required, although we’d like to think reading The PR Insider every week might earn you a point or two.

Drinks will be available to buy directly from the venue throughout the evening. We’ll confirm food options and any other practical details before the event.
