About This Event

The Reimagining Reading Communities event will take place at the Hub Theatre, The Open University in Milton Keynes on October 17, 2026, discussing the social and relational nature of reading.

Reading communities highlight the social and relational nature of reading.

Characterised by interaction and reciprocity, difference and diversity, such communities of belonging take many forms and create connections. This inspiring conference will offer opportunities to envision such connections and explore evidence-informed ways to nurture these, thus enabling the pleasure of reading to be shared. Norfolk Children's Book Centre will enrich the day. Workshops, led by the OU RfP team and talented educators, will offer engaging ways forward.

09.30 – 10.00: Registration and coffee

10.00 – 10.40: Research keynote: Connecting families and communities for reading engagement with Rachel Levy (UCL) and Anna Harrison (Roehampton)

10:40 – 11:00: Harper Collins, OU and UKLA Reading for Pleasure Awards

11.00 – 11.30: Coffee

11.30 – 12.30: Workshop Sessions

12:30 – 12.45: Reading Communities in Action: OURfP team and Rachel Saunders

12.45 – 13.10: Author Keynote: Mel Taylor-Bessent

13.10 - 13.55: Lunch and bookshops

13.55 – 14.55: Workshop Sessions
