Donation & free tickets available

Creative Climate Club is a free, monthly meeting for people who care about nature and are interested in creatively responding to the world around us, our local environment, and wider climate issues.

The monthly meetings will involve creative activities which can help us care for the environment, such as:

Creative opportunities with artists such as painting, collage, sketch-booking and photography.

Opportunities to learn with local community experts such as bee foraging walks, pond ecology and talks about the Rive Tyne and its health.

The chance to make a connection with local nature, wildlife and planting of urban spaces, such as a ‘garden crawl’ to local community gardens.

Over time, members of the club will collaborate to develop our next steps, identifying practical tasks like litter picks, gardening and tree planting that we’d like to collectively participate in, new places we’d like to visit and people we’d like to hear from, and creative activities we can respond with.

Held in our Front Room for ages 13+.

How to create habitats and increase biodiversity in urban spaces, with Wild Roots Community Garden

Join us on a trip from Baltic to Wild Roots - a local Community Garden just across the river in Ouseburn, Newcastle. Either meet us at Baltic to walk along together (please arrive by 13:30 if walking with us), or make your own way to Wild Roots for 14:00 - see below for further details about getting there.Guided by wildlife community gardener, Nick Figgis, you’ll learn practical tips for boosting biodiversity in any space, together with some of the theory around gardening for wildlife, giving you inspiration to help wildlife thrive in the city.

Starting with a tour of the garden, the Wild Roots team guided by wildlife community gardener, Nick Figgis, will share all about their practice of gardening for abundant wildlife. See how Nick, along with volunteers, community members and experts, has addressed biodiversity loss, a major crisis in the UK, and created habitats to increase biodiversity in an urban space. After having a look around, we'll learn practical tips to do the same in any space, together with some of the theory around gardening for wildlife, offering inspiration to help create the niches that wildlife needs to thrive, inviting all the weird and wonderful creatures with whom we share the planet with back into our lives - whether it’s in our own yards or balconies, the local park or school.

Wild Roots is a community wildlife gardening laboratory where we trial various methods, working with nature to create an abundance of habitats in a small urban space.Nick Figgis is a wildlife community gardener who trained on the ‘Care Not Capital, Modern Gardener’ training with John Little. Nick is passionate about creating habitats in urban spaces, to be enjoyed by people and wildlife together. Please note it is advised to wear comfortable shoes suitable for areas of uneven ground whilst visiting this outdoor garden space. As we will be outdoors, please wear clothes suitable for the forecast weather conditions and bring with you anything you may require in the case of sunshine or rain. You may prefer to wear clothes which you don't mind getting a little mucky. Please note the session is aimed at adults and young people over 13, however interested children are welcome with a supervising adult.

Getting there:

Option 1: Meet at Baltic's 'Hello' desk on the ground floor for 1:30pm, ready to walk approximately 20 minutes to the garden. The route will be step-free but does involve some uphill and downhill sections. Toilets are available at Baltic next to the meeting point.

Option 2: Meet at Wild Roots Community Garden - look for a black gate on Stepney Bank, Ouseburn, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, at the intersection of Stepney Bank and Stepney Road - opposite Billy Bootleggers. What 3 Words: ///tooth.reef.fine
